Rick Menell (53) is Chairman of the Carrick Trust in South Africa. He has had a 35-year career in the international mining industry, having been Executive Chairman of Anglovaal Mining and Avgold, Deputy Chairman of African Rainbow Minerals and Harmony Gold and recently retired as President and CEO of TEAL Exploration & Mining. He served for many years on the council of the South African Chamber of Mines and was President from 1999 to 2001. He is currently Chairman of Bateman Engineering and serves as a director of Standard Bank Group, Gold Fields and Mutual & Federal Insurance. Rick is a founder director of The Business Trust and The National Business Initiative in South Africa, Co-Chairman of City Year South Africa (youth service) and a member of the Business Advisory Board of the International Organisation on Migration. In 1998 he was recognised as a "Global Leader for Tomorrow" by the World Economic Forum where he has served for over 10 years as a Governor from the mining industry. He holds an MA from Cambridge and an MSc from Stanford universities.
